intaglio and aquatint print

This piece is called “Of Form.” Inspired in part by the energetic, abstract forms in Stanley William Hayter’s etchings, I wanted to explore the departure point of conventional forms we associate with an object. A drop of water that undergoes multiple transformations of form – from its partitioning into pixels to its unraveling into an amorphous, cloudy form. I thought this expression of freedom in form fitted a quote from Jorge Luis Borges’ Borges y Yo: “We fill pre-existing forms and when we will them, we change them and are changed.”

  • I usually plan things my print projects out thoroughly; after all, mistakes can be time-costly and materials-costly…but I let go of that meticulousness…in other words, I winged (wung?) something, and the final product didn’t crash and burn in the depths of hell! This is a victory!
  • Also, I apologize for the hiatus! I’ve been interning abroad in Tokyo for this past month and a half. I have a lot of post ideas/photo journals backlogged in my phone. If digital items could collect dust, my archives surely would need a good dusting…I hope to sit down and write soon!
